As Apple will be hosting the Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) on 2 June this year, OS X 10.10 version will be highlighted, a new software and potentially new hardware overshadowing iOS 8, which will be a huge hit for the rest of the year.

The company is silently putting emphasis on OS X and moving iOS user in interface developers to the OS X teams to finish up the new design for the conference. Apple has two separate operating systems for iOS and OS X. But the new version of OS X will share similar design elements with iOS 7.

Mark Gurman of 9to5 Mac said, "The new look will have similar toggle designs to iOS 7, sharper window corners, more defined icons across the system, and more white space than the current version. However, OS X characteristics like the Finder, multi-window multitasking, and Mission Control will not disappear in favour of a more iOS-like experience."

Apple targets the desktop OS for release in the fall, along with new hardware that will ship with this latest OS X version. Although the internal development codename of OS X 10.10 is "Syrah," the shipping name is still unclear. Apple apparently is securing trademarks for popular California locations that would match the new theme started with "Mavericks."

On the iOS 8 side of development, Gurman reported Apple is pushing some features to version 8.1 as the company is only focusing on OS X.

Some notable features of iOS 8 are transit directions for Apple Maps, Healthbook, which collects health/fitness information, a new TextEdit app, and breaking out iTunes Radio as a standalone application.

He added Apple is making some significant changes on iCloud on the developer's side that make it easier to implement support for the service Siri that may also see Shazam integration, allowing users to identify a song using the voice assistant.

Though Gurman is not expecting a big Apple TV update at WWDC, but iOS 8 is reportedly being optimized for Apple's upcoming A8 processor and the rumored larger display of iPhone 6.
