Without a doubt, many actresses have given strong performances this year and worthy of the Best Actress Academy Award 2014. But there are many reasons why we think Cate Blanchett for her role as Jasmine in "Blue Jasmine" should win the "Best Actress Academy Award 2014.

Let's take a look at what makes Blanchett the front runner in the category:

Cate Blanchett plays anti-herione who is a boozer. Playing an anti-heroine needs a lot of preparation. Blanchett has given a lot in her wake to get in the skin of an alcoholic. She has told media that she observed a lot of women who have had a tragic fate and afterwards turned into drunkards.

"I followed them like everybody else did, but as an actress you go back and you're slightly more forensic about those relationships," she told MSN Entertainment.

It takes guts to play a character with whom the audience may not sympathize. Owing to the privileges Cate Blanchett has in the film, it is tough to get emotional for her character that turns into an alcoholic post her social downfall.

"She's a woman on the verge, and she's this febrile cocktail of rage and guilt and fear. But she's also on a cocktail of Xanex and vodka," Blanchett has described her role. The Australian actress deserves applause for taking such a risk for playing a role which may have earned her the wrath of fans.

Cate Blanchett played a career killing role: In most of the scenes, Cate has appeared makeup less. She told telegraph.co.uk that, playing make-up less alcoholic is probably a bit of a career-killing decision.
