The British Academy of Films and Television Arts has chosen Sean Ellis "Metro Manila "as UK's official selection for the best foreign language film category for Academy Awards 2014.

Winner of the audience award for best World Dramatic Competition film at Sundance 2013, Metro Manila tells the story of Oscar Ramirez and his family who is looking to enhance their lifestyles in the busy city of the Philippines.

According to the 'The Telegraph', "Sean Ellis' Philippines-set film is crisply written and beautifully performed". Critic Robbie Collin further said in his review of the film "Ellis takes his time over small scenes that tell us a lot: a sequence in which Oscar attempts to tell his new boss a joke is crisply written and beautifully performed. Moments like that can give you dangerously high hopes for a film, and Metro Manila amply meets them".

Described by Collin as Christopher Nolan kind crime thriller, Metro Manila is entirely shot in Philippines and uses Filipino language. In the past UK has submitted more than 10 films in the Best Foreign Film Category but only two, Welsh biopic Hedd Wyn in 1993 and Welsh romantic drama Solomon and Gaenor had made it to the final race.

The film would release in UK on September 20 and looking at the rave reviews of the film we are hoping that the this time film may in accolades at the Oscars. What is worth to note here that film board of Philippines has also chosen a similar kind of film to be sent to the Academy Awards .The film is called "Hannah Espia's Transit" and tells a story about a Filipino migrant who is facing hardships in working in Tel Aviv. The film very intricately deals with the life of migrant workers and the laws in regards to same.
