On Thursday, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences announced the nominees for the upcoming Academy Awards, or Oscars. The announcement was made by the Academy's president Cheryl Boone Isaacs and actor Chris Hemsworth.

There were the usual suspects, the likes of Jennifer Lawrence, Leonardo DiCaprio, Sandra Bullock and Lupita Nyong'o; and there were the surprises, by way of Jonah Hill and Lana del Rey.

But how did the nominees react to their nominations? Here we run down some of their comments, as well as that of their friends and family.

Jennifer Lawrence nabs her second Oscar nomination, this time as Best Supporting Actress for "American Hustle." Along with her usual "thank you" to the Academy, she also congratulates her fellow nominees and feels honored "to be nominated in the company of these four actresses who I admire and are so incredibly talented."

Leonardo DiCaprio, whose work on "The Wolf of Wall Street" landed him his third Oscar Best Actor nomination, feels happy to share the honor with the movie's cast and crew.

"'The Wolf of Wall Street' has been a passion project of mine, and I found the role to be one of the most challenging and rewarding of my career," Leo says. "Congratulations to all of my fellow nominees and thank you to the Academy for this extraordinary recognition."

Lupita Nyong'o, on the other hand, gets an Oscar nomination for her first major project after graduating from the Yale School of Drama. She is "thrilled beyond words" for the nomination, and she is "so pleased to be able to share it with the rest of the '12 Years a Slave' family."

But then, the nominees themselves were not the only ones who had their reaction.

Chiwetel Ejiofor is "grateful" for his nomination as Best Actor for "12 Years a Slave." But his sister, CNN business correspondent Zain Asher, could not have been more proud of him. She was emotional as she shares on air to her fellow hosts how she feels about Chiwetel's Oscar nomination, and she "couldn't even describe the feeling" when he finally got the honor after 20 years of acting.

Meanwhile, Jonah Hill receives congratulatory messages from friends James Franco and Channing Tatum sent via their social media pages.

"Congrats Jonah," James wrote on the Instagram photo of him and Jonah.

Meanwhile, Channing writes the following on his Twitter post: "Want to say congrats to @JonahHill and @McConaughey on their well-deserved Oscars nominations!"
