The nominees have been announced, making fans and critics spew out mixed reactions towards the snubbed and groundbreaking ones this year.

The film adaptation of Yann Martel's Life of Pi garnered many nominations, as well as Steven Spielberg's Lincoln. Another movie that caught the attention of the Academy was Les Miserables, and Quentin Tarantino's Django Unchained.

One ground-breaking nominee went to 9-year-old Quvenzhane Wallis from Beasts of the Southern Wild. Wallis beat Anna Paquin's record as the youngest actress to be nominated for an Academy Award. If Wallis goes on to win the award, she will be the youngest Best Actress Oscar winner in history.

Others were not so amused that Kathryn Bigelow, the director for Best Picture nominee, Zero Dark Thirty, was not given recognition as a nominee for Bes Director. Ben Afleck also did not get a nod for directing Argo, one of the movies that gained many nominations this year. Although Tarantino is also not included in the Best Director pool, his work on Djang Unchained screenplay is leaning towards the win for Best Original Screenplay.

The winners will be revealed on the 24th of February, with a ceremony hosted by Family Guy creator, Seth McFarlane.
