The preview video of “Outlander” episode 10 has been released online. The video shows that the Duke of Sandringham will feature in the next episode. Jamie is excited with the prospect of getting the price on his head lifted. Meanwhile, the cast members of the show discussed some of the aspects of the previous episode, including the spanking scene and the problems between Jamie and Claire. [Spoiler alert]

Jamie will get to meet the Duke of Sandringham, played by Simon Callow, for the first time in “Outlander” episode 10. Claire warns her husband, telling him not to trust the Duke; given her knowledge of history she knows that the Duke is an ally of Jack Randall. The previous episode showed that Colum Mackenzie invited the Duke to try and gauge his position on the Jacobite rebellion.

The Duke of Sandringham can be seen telling Jamie that he must return the favour, if the Duke decides to help him. Jamie goes to meet the Duke in the hope that he will lift the price on his head for a crime that he is innocent of. But, things may not go as planned for Jamie. Jamie is seen in a pistol duel and the Duke is later seen raising his pistol.

Claire can be seen asking Jamie to come back to her. The previous episode of “Outlander” showed how the events in the episode drove a wedge in their relationship. Sam Heughan and Caitriona Balfe spoke to Variety about some of the scenes in the previous episode.

Caitriona Balfe revealed that the fight scene between her character and Jamie was basically due to the fear and hurt that the two characters feel and the range of strong emotions that they experience. The actress also points out that Claire doesn’t realise that her actions endangered the lives of the men in the clan and how her actions and her consequent rescue will have repercussions on all the Scotsmen.

Talking about the spanking scene, Sam Heughan said that his actions helped the two characters move ahead in the relationship. Jamie was becoming more responsible and Claire learnt that there will be consequences for being “naughty.” The spanking also helped Claire to try and rebuild her relations with the other clansmen. “He has to punish her, whether or not he believes in it. He says he doesn’t, but he has to because otherwise the Highlanders won’t protect her,” Sam Heughan said in the report.

Sam Heughan also said that the spanking scene was more about “justice” rather than about “domestic abuse.” Caitriona Balfe also emphasised that the scene has to be taken in the “context of 1743” and not in the context of the modern times we live in. The relationship between the two characters is expected to develop more in the future episodes of “Outlander.”
