'Outlander' Season 2: Oscar Kennedy cast as John William Grey; Sophie Turner not playing Brianna
A new cast member has joined the cast of “Outlander” Season 2. Starz has announced that Oscar Kennedy will be playing the role of John William Grey in the popular TV series.
The announcement posted on the official Twitter page of the TV series describes Grey as an “honourable gentleman.” Commenting on the announcement, some of the fans of the series expressed their excitement about the casting news.
Born in 1999, Kennedy has been a part of many TV shows. Some of the TV series in which he has been a cast member include “Hunted,” “The White Queen,” “The Body Farm” and “The Politician’s Husband.” His newest TV series “Elevator Gods” is currently in the post production phase.
According to a report by TV Line, the producers have chosen to introduce Grey as a young boy, as the character appears in the same way in the novel “Dragonfly in Amber,” on which the next season is based on. The report notes that Grey will play an important role in the lives of the main characters Jamie (Sam Heughan) and Claire (Caitriona Balfe).
Many of the new characters expected to be seen in “Outlander” Season 2 have already been cast. One major character yet to be cast is Brianna. Sophie Turner, who is famous for playing the role of Sansa Stark in “Game of Thrones,” was one of the actors who was previously speculated to be playing the role.
Turner, however, debunked speculation about her playing Brianna. Speaking with Entertainment Weekly, the actress recalled how she was asked about playing the role at a red carpet and Heughan tweeting about it. She, however, said that she is “loyal” to her “one true love” and has no plans to play the role of Brianna.
Filming of “Outlander” Season 2 is currently ongoing. The next season of the show is expected to premiere by March or April 2016.
