'Outlander' Season 2 spoilers: Why Jamie and Claire's fight scene was changed; Cute scene of Fergus released online
Just before Jamie and Claire returned to Scotland from France in “Outlander” Season 2, they were supposed to get into a big fight. However, the TV series decided to remove the fight and focus on a more crucial part of the story, Ronald D. Moore explained in a recent interview.
[Spoiler alert]
Claire (Caitriona Balfe) had to sleep with King Louis (Lionel Lingelser) in France, in order to secure the release of her husband Jamie (Sam Heughan). In the books written by Diana Gabaldon, on which the show is based, this was supposed to lead to a fight between the couple. The TV series, however, ignored the fight, and instead focused on the shared grief of the couple for losing their baby.
In an interview with Variety, Moore said that he explained to writer Toni Graphia that even though Claire sleeping with the king was a big part of the books, for the TV series nothing was bigger than the loss of the baby. Graphia had to come up with a second draft of the script for the episode in “Outlander” Season 2, keeping this point in mind.
Moore called the second draft of the script “amazing piece of writing.” The producer remembers walking into the writers’ room in Scotland, where he hugged and kissed Graphia for writing such a beautiful script, and he complemented her for the same by saying that he was “proud” of her.
Meanwhile, back in Scotland the war has begun. The Highlanders got their first taste of battle in the recently aired episode that saw several warriors wounded and the death of Angus (Stephen Walters).
An unlikely character who also witnessed the horrors of war in “Outlander” Season 2 was Fergus (Romann Berrux). A new video released by Starz shows the young boy insisting that he be allowed to go to war, even though both Claire and Jamie want him to stay back.
