'Outlander' season 3 spoilers: Jamie's bow and arrow will see some action; Cave life teased
After using swords extensively, Jamie will be seen using a bow and arrow in “Outlander” season 3. A behind the scenes video released online reveals how the weapon is not just for show and will see some action in the hands of the Scotsman. The following article contains minor spoilers.
In an exclusive interview with ETOnline, the armourer of the show Jim Elliott gave a sneak peek at some of the weapons the fans will get to see this year. He first showed the broad sword Jamie (Sam Heughan) used in the last season, and later showed two arrows that were used by the actor during filming for the new season. One of the arrows is fake, which is made of rubber, while the other is used by the Scotsman.
The Battle of Culloden is going to be the biggest action sequence so far to be featured in the TV series. But, it is not clear if Jamie will use the bow and arrow in this fight. The video in the report teases a few behind the scenes footage of this action sequence, and also reveals that the Scotsman will spend some time in a cave in “Outlander” season 3.
Rupert’s (Grant O’Rourke) axe is also teased in the video. There were two axes made, one of them is the fake rubber weapon that is used while filming the actor running with it along with the other Highlanders, and the other real weapon is used to film the close action sequences.
The armourer had to supply a huge cache of weapons for the Battle of Culloden scenes. Seven hundred weapons were apparently used on a daily basis on the set for the action sequences, and they were transported to the set in four trucks every day.
The Battle of Culloden scenes were filmed in Scotland. The armoury of the show is in Glasgow, which also houses guns that are kept locked away in containers. There is another set close to the armoury, but the report did not elaborate on what it is. Details about this mysterious set are expected to be revealed sometime in the future.
Elliot said that the Battle of Culloden is one of the “biggest moments” of the show, and added that it was a “daunting” task to prepare to film the relevant scenes. The action sequence will be featured in the premiere episode of “Outlander” season 3.
