'Outlander' season 3 spoilers: Mr Willoughby storyline confirmed by Diana Gabaldon
There have been a lot of new casting announcements for “Outlander” season 3, but what is interesting is that one particular major character has been missing in all the news stories. Author Diana Gabaldon, on whose books the show is based, has confirmed that the producers haven’t made any drastic change and Mr Willoughby will appear on screen next year.
One of the fans asked Gabaldon if the producers are going to skip Mr Willoughby storyline from the books. Replying to the fan, the author confirmed that the character is there on the show.
[Spoiler alert]
Mr Willoughby is a Chinese character that Jamie (Sam Heughan) meets in Edinburgh. His real name is Yi Tien Cho, a scholar who worked for the Chinese government, but now lives in exile. The character has a drinking problem, and his life had taken a dark turn, when he was rescued by the Scottish warrior.
Perhaps the reason why there hasn’t been a casting announcement yet about the character for “Outlander” season 3 is that he appears only after Claire (Caitriona Balfe) travels back in time through the stones. The first half of the next season will focus mainly on the Battle of Culloden and its aftermath in Jamie’s timeline, and in the flash forward it will be Frank (Tobias Menizies) and his wife living in Boston.
The interesting things to note about Mr Willoughby are that he knows a little Chinese medicine, and has a feet fetish. He will also accompany the main characters on their journey to Jamaica.
About seven episodes of “Outlander” season 3 have already been filmed, and one of these episodes will feature the Print Shop scene. The production will soon shift to South Africa, where they will shoot the scenes related to Jamaica and the sea voyage. The team is currently on their Christmas break, and will return soon to continue production.
