'Outlander' Season 3 spoilers: Sam Heughan jokes about getting fat
Sam Heughan spoke about preparing to reprise his role as Jamie in “Outlander” Season 3, in a recent interview. The actor joked about planning to get fat, in preparation of playing an older version of his character on the show.
[Spoiler alert]
The finale of the second season ended with Claire (Caitriona Balfe) planning to go through the magical stones at Craigh Na Dun, after finding out that the love of her life - Jamie (Sam Heughan) didn’t die during the Battle of Culloden. The next season is based on the third book in the series by Diana Gabaldon titled “Voyager.”

Fans who have read the book already know that they will get to see an older Jamie in the next season, just as they got to see an older Claire in the second season. However, there will still be flashbacks to reveal what happened during and right after the Battle of Culloden, at which time Jamie was still a young man.

In an interview with Vulture, Heughan joked that he is thinking about getting “really fat” as he prepares to play Jamie again. “I'm thinking eating a lot and not working out would be really good,” the actor added.
However, Heughan is acutely aware that his huge fan base may not be particularly interested in seeing a fat version of his character. So, the actor has no plans to actually go through with the idea.

Heughan explained that the story now is mostly about who Jamie is without Claire. So, it is less about what he looks like next year and more about his state of mind.
“Outlander” Season 3 is going to be a “completely different show,” Heughan teased. Just as the second season surprised the fans by showing them the opulence of France, the show will now take viewers on an adventurous journey through the high seas. The plot is set in the Caribbean and Heughan is excited about the prospect of travelling to Jamaica and drinking Piña coladas!
