'Outlander' Season 3: What it's like for Sam Heughan to film without Caitriona Balfe
In a recent interview, Sam Heughan was asked to tease some details about “Outlander” Season 3. The actor was specifically asked about what it was like to film the first few episodes without his fellow cast member Caitriona Balfe. Meanwhile, a sneak peek video of the Blu-Ray of the second season has been released online.
Sam Heughan (Jamie Fraser) and Caitriona Balfe (Claire) have been filming scenes together for almost all the episodes that have aired so far. Perhaps for the first time the two actors will be filming their scenes separately, until the highly anticipated reunion of their characters on the show.
Speaking about the situation on the set with Vanity Fair, Heughan said that working without Balfe was like “having a death in the family.” The actor said that it was hard for him to separate from his character. Jamie believes that Claire is dead and that is expected to affect him mentally.
Working in “Outlander” Season 3 is also hard on Heughan, as he appears to have developed a great rapport with Balfe. He described his fellow cast member as a “great person, great to come to work with, and a very good actress.” He pointed out that the pain Jamie will endure in the first few episodes will add to the reunion of the two main characters and will make the event “very special.”
Jamie will be seen as an older man next year, just as Claire was shown to have aged in the second season. Heughan admits that there is an ageing process this time around for his character, but refused to give out any details for fear of spoiling the plot too early for the fans who haven’t read the books. The actor teased that the fans will have to wait and watch the show to find out how different the characters will look.
While the fans wait for the premiere of “Outlander” Season 3, they can watch the second season on Blu-Ray. A sneak peek video of the Blu-Ray edition posted on Access Hollywood reveals the thought process behind one of the most crucial scenes in the second season, and why it was important to show it a little differently than the books.
