'Outlander' wins Best Fantasy at Saturn Awards; Sam Heughan and Caitriona Balfe lose out
Starz “Outlander” TV series retained its crown by winning in the Best Fantasy category at the Saturn Awards. Lead cast members Sam Heughan and Caitriona Balfe were also nominated in the Best Actor and Best Actress categories, respectively, but failed to win.
The series had to beat “Game of Thrones,” “Beyond,” “The Good Place,” “Lucifer,” “The Magicians” and “Preacher” to retain its position on top. Last year, the TV series had to win among several strong contenders, which included the most watched HBO series.
Co-executive producers Maril Davis and Toni Graphia accepted the award on stage. Davis was also happy about meeting Lee Majors, the star of the hit 70s TV series “The Six Million Dollar Man.”
Heughan (Jamie) lost out to Andrew Lincoln (Rick Grimes) in the Best Actor category for "The Walking Dead." The other actors nominated in the category were Bruce Campbell for “Ash vs. Evil Dead,” Mike Colter for “Luke Cage,” Charlie Cox for “Daredevil,” Grant Gustin for “The Flash” and Freddie Highmore for “Bates Motel.”
Balfe was selected Best Actress last year at the Saturn Awards. This year, Melissa Benoist (Kara) from “Supergirl” was able to win in the category. Benoist was also in the race last year. The other actresses in this category were Kim Dickens for “Fear the Walking Dead,” Vera Farmiga for “Bates Motel,” Lena Headey for “Game of Thrones,” Sarah Paulson for “American Horror Story: Roanoke” and Winona Ryder for “Stranger Things.”
