'Outlaw King’ First trailer shows Chris Pine as Robert the Bruce
The first trailer of the upcoming film “Outlaw King” has been released online. The video shows lead cast member Chris Pine as Robert the Bruce. The historical biography is about Scotland’s struggle for freedom from the English occupation.
Robert the Bruce was a nobleman in Scotland who rallied his forces in a seemingly unwinnable war against the much more powerful English army under their king Edward I. The film is set in a time when Robert has been defeated and he desperately wants to continue to fight back.
Edward I (Stephen Dillane) has outlawed Robert and all the men in his ranks. In person in Scotland found to be giving shelter to these outlaws are to be executed without a trial. The trailer shows the English soldiers killing and harassing the people.
As Robert goes on to raise a new army, talented people flock to serve him. The movie has some exciting scenes of war. From a night raid on a camp to castle sieges, the film promises much.
Despite the passion of the Scotsmen, it is still a battle of David vs. Goliath. Robert’s strategy to defeat the well organised and better equipped English army is to take one castle at a time, and drive the English out of Scotland.
The cast members of the film include Florence Pugh (Elizabeth de Burgh), Aaron Taylor-Johnson (James Douglas), Tony Curran (Angus Macdonald), James Cosmo (Sir Robert VI de Brus), Callan Mulvey (Lord John Comyn), and Billy Howle (Prince of Wales). “Outlander” TV series fans will recognise Duncan Lacroix (Lord Henry Percy) and Steven Cree (Seton).
The “Outlaw King” has been directed by David Mackenzie, who has worked on movies like “Hell or High Water” and “Perfect Sense.” The film will be shown at the Toronto International Film Festival next month, and it will be released on Netflix later.
