Pacquiao vs. Rios: Pacman to Start Training Camp Early, Looks To Bring Back Demon Side Against Brandon Rios
Manny Pacquiao is all set to launch his training right after head trainer Freddie Roach's arrival next week in General Santos City, Philippines. The eight-time division world champion has already started doing light drills, but everything is expected to be busier at training camp.
Pacquiao, who's attempting to make a successful return in the ring against hard-hitting Brandon 'Bam Bam' Rios on Nov 24 at Venetian Macao in Macau, China, has been working out pretty well for the past few days at MP Tower Boxing Gym in Manila.
Roach previously targeted to begin training camp early October, but decided to start it much earlier, giving them more time to prepare for what could be a make-or-break fight for the Pacman.
In an interview with a local radio station, Pacquiao's legal representative, Frank Gacal, said the Filipino champ is steadily gaining his quickness and power after a long layoff from the ring.
Aching to make a statement after a devastating sixth round TKO loss to Juan Manuel Marquez in December, Pacquiao assured that he will bring his old, brutal self when he hits the ring once again.
Pacquiao was noticeably a bit off during his fights with Tim Bradley and Marquez last year. Boxing analysts considered age as the factor to the Pacman's increasing passiveness inside the ring, while others take on his conversion into a devoted Christian as the one that took the thunder from the Filipino champ.
In an article by the Philippine Inquirer in 2012, Pacquiao allegedly found himself distracted by pastors, knocking him out of focus during training camp. Moreover, a source even cited that these pastors turned the boxing idol into their milking cow by allegedly soliciting large amount of money.
"The old Manny Pacquiao is gone. Atop the ring, he is no longer as ferocious as before. Unless he learns to temper his newfound passion and obsession, we would no longer see knock-out victories in his future fights," the source told Phil Inquirer.
For the Pacman to get back to his old groove, he has to make sure these things won't happen again in his upcoming training camp. Another thing is he must start not showing compassion towards his opponent and return to a brutal and merciless Pacquiao that obliterated the big guns in boxing (Oscar de la Hoya, Erik Morales, Marco Barrera, Miguel Cotton and others) six or seven years ago. That's the only way Pacman can revive his career. That's the only way to regain his old identity - No Fear Pacman.
