A terrorist attack on soldiers in Hyderpora, Srinagar in Kashmir killed eight. Initially, thought to have been an attack by the Hazbul Mujahadeen, officials now believe that evidence points to an attack from Pakistani militants, the Lashkar-e-Toiba.

This group was responsible for many attacks on Indian soil, including the 2008 Mumbai attacks carried out by two gunmen that left Mumbai spell bound.

Security personnel have revealed that the two terrorists belonged to a group of ten. This group entered Kashmir in October as two separate units. The two men were also reported as speaking Urdu, which ties them to Pakistan. The Mujahadeen are mostly Kashmiri, say officials.

The LeT were using Facebook for passing on messages between its members and a divisional commander, Fahadullah caught by the Indian forces revealed that he was sent two batches of soldiers in two groups. Fahadullah admitted to use codes such as 'pepsi point' to identify locations with Pakistani collaborators.

The captured LeT commander said that the organization's training camp was moved to Dulai in the Pak part of Kashmir after the Mumbai 26/11 attacks.

A day after the attacks Prime Minister Manmohan Singh was quoted by PTI as saying, "I want to pay tribute to the soldiers who laid down their lives while fighting the terrorists." He added that the country is behind India's efforts to combat terrorism and that the acts of violence will not succeed.

The Prime Minister continued to say that security is a pre-requisite to development and that the violence against soldiers would not put a dent in the country' efforts to get rid of terrorism. In his tribute, Prime Minister Singh said that India was catching up on the figures on terrorism. Jammu and Kashmir has improved significantly in stopping terrorism with a drastic drop in terrorism in 2012.
