Pakistani ‘Jack the Ripper’ Injures 25 Women In Islamabad
A young Pakistani man, dubbed as "Jack the Ripper," stabbed 25 women in a town 450 kilometers away from Islamabad. Chichawatni authorities confirmed that about 25 women and girls sustained stab wounds from separate attacks by this lunatic man. The attacks reportedly occurred within the month.
With such incidents, police told the press Monday that many girls and women feared to go out because of the attacks.
A spokesman for the Sahiwal District Hasseb-ul-Hassan said, "Most of the incidents have happened after sunset, but some schoolgirls were also attacked while going back home after school."
Hassan added authorities have not yet confirmed the total number of attacks but told reporters the number of victims is "between 25 to 30."
Physicians in the small town of Chichawatni noted the victims were stabbed in different body parts like stomach, legs or back. Authorities were unsure what the attacker's motives are but noted the man might be suffering from a mental problem.
Experts believed the attacks may have done by an extremist who wanted women and girls to stay at home.
"Most of the women were stabbed after the sunset," Asim Waqar, a Chichawatni hospital doctor, said. He added two of the women who were attacked were wearing burqa.
On Oct. 6, the hospital received the first woman who was stabbed by the unknown attacker. Sources said two or three women a day have visited the hospital due to stab wounds.
A 22-year-old Pakistani woman was one of the most recent victims of the attacker. She was reportedly stabbed multiple times in front of her sister. The man was seen dismounting a motorbike before the attack.
According to Officer Tahir Aijaz, they are looking for a single attacker and recently announced a $2, 000 reward for information that would lead to his arrest.
Many of the attacks were not reported, a source said and it's because the people of Chichawatni do no trust the police.
Other residents of Chichawatni said the police are underfunded and are likely not capable to halt the attacks.
