Papal Cologne: Pope Francis is Now in a Bottle … His Scent at Least
Pope Francis is now in a bottle. Well, his scent at least. American fragrance maker Excelsis Fine Fragrances has released a new scent that pays homage to the "humble and down to earth" personality of the half-year old supreme pontiff of the Roman Catholic church. A dab of this scent would probably make someone smell heavenly, or smell like a saint. Just hope it won't make criminals smell as appealing too.
Simply labeled "Francis," the scent was concocted using bergamot and sandalwood, according to CEO Frederick Hass. "I didn't want to get anything too flashy," Mr Hass said. "I wanted something subtle and dignified and relatively simple."
"Francis," however, is not a first of its kind for Excelsis Fine Fragrances since the company was founded in 2005. Its very first papal cologne was "The Pope's Cologne," which honors the late 18th Century Pontiff, Pope Pius IX. The second one, introduced in 2006, was "Benedictus," in honor of Pope Emeritus Benedict XVI.
"Francis" was a creation naturally spurred from customer requests.
"Francis is a smooth and engaging subtle fragrance, with a citrusy top note," Mr Hass said.
Released on Tuesday, Mr Hass said he put a lot of effort into creating Francis, the cologne.
"He's more humble and down to earth than the previous popes. So I tried to fit the perfume to the personality," he said.
Hearing comments that the new fragrance smells 'gentle,' 'simple,' 'warm,' 'pleasing' and even 'heavenly,' Mr Hass knows he has made an almost-perfect creation.
"These are precisely the terms used by the media and the new Pope's close associates to describe His Holiness' own character traits and personal demeanor."
Francis will be initially available online, through here - www.ExcelsisUSA.com.
