Papyrus or Cartier: Kate Middleton fans pick the perfect tiara for October's state banquet
The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge are expected to attend the state banquet at the Buckingham Palace in October to welcome Chinese President Xi Jinping and his wife Peng Liyuan to the United Kingdom. It’s believed Kate Middleton will wear her tiara for the said gathering and fans are anticipating which of her two headpieces, the Cartier Halo and the Papyrus, will she wear.
The “Lotus Flower” tiara, which Forbes says is otherwise referred to as the “Papyrus Leaf,” ranks high as likely choice for Kate to wear at the banquet, according to readers of from Berkshire to Buckingham. A reader named Emma says she would “like to see Kate wearing the Papyrus” while another named Gabriela commented on how it’s likely the duchess will choose the Papyrus over the Cartier Halo.
The Duchess of Cambridge wore the Papyrus tiara once in 2013 at the Annual Diplomatic Reception at the Buckingham Palace, according to Hello Magazine. The headpiece was lent to her by Queen Elizabeth II and it was reportedly originally a necklace.
As for the Cartier halo tiara, an anonymous reader said it is too precious to be worn during a state banquet and should be reserved for a more special occasion considering it has a sentimental value. The Cartier Halo tiara was lent to the Duchess of Cambridge by Queen Elizabeth II for her wedding to Prince William on April 29, 2011.
The 1936 creation was also an anniversary present from King George VI to the Queen Mother. Then the Cartier halo tiara was handed down to Queen Elizabeth II as a gift for her 18 th birthday. Princess Margaret mostly wore the tiara, according to Mirror UK and even wore it during her marriage to Anton Armstrong-Jones. The headpiece went unseen after that until Kate’s royal wedding. The tiara was reportedly also put on display at the Grand Palais in Paris as part of Cartier’s exhibition in 2013.
Meanwhile, royal fans have also expressed their excitement on Twitter after learning of Kate Middleton’s possible appearance with a tiara at the state banquet.
Buckingham Palace has yet to officially confirm the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge’s presence at the state banquet. Hello Magazine reports that it was Prince William who extended the invitation to China’s president when he visited the country in March.
