The United Arab Emirates reaffirmed its solidarity with France in hard times as it paid tribute by colouring Burj Khalifa with those of France’s national flag. The tallest building in the world was coloured blue, white and red to pay respect to the victims of the terror attacks in Paris on Friday.

The colours represented the UAE’s support for France in its hard times. According to the instructions from the UAE leadership, Burj Khalifa was covered in the colours of France’s national flag at 9 p.m. on Nov. 15 (local time), Emirates 247 reported.

The tallest building in the world is, however, not the only international landmark to be enveloped in the French tricolours. Australia paid tribute to the victims of the Paris attacks by lighting up the Sydney Opera House in blue, white and red. So was Auckland's Sky Tower as well as other landmarks in Australia.

The top of the One World Trade Centre in New York was lit up in the tricolours. The Angel de la Independencia monument in Mexico City was lit up in blue, white and red as well.

The people of Australia showed support for their counterparts in France by gathering at the Forrest Place in Perth. More than 500 Australians rallied on Sunday night as they carried flowers, banners and French national flags. They sang the French national anthem and lit candles to convey the message of peace and solidarity.

"We hear that France is a target now because of the values that we stand for and, for us that being the reason why we are attacked, we want to stand to show that we are resisting this extremism that is being directed towards us and fight it of course," The ABC quoted the Honorary Consul for France in WA Patrick Kedemos as saying.
