Madonna got teary-eyed on stage during her gig at Stockholm's Tele 2 Arena on Sunday. The queen of pop delivered an emotional message in light of the coordinated Paris attacks on Friday, Nov. 13, which left more than a hundred people dead. Madonna asked the audience for a moment of silence for the victims and their grieving families.

Madonna broke down in tears in the video below, as she told the crowd that she was considering cancelling her show following the attacks in Paris. The 57-year old said that “in many ways she feels torn” since she thought that she shouldn’t be up on stage “dancing and having fun when people are crying over the loss of their loved ones.”

The superstar said that “the tragic killings, assassinations and the senseless ending of precious life” that happened in Paris on Friday had disturbed her all day. But then she thought that cancelling the show would only make the terrorists feel like they’ve won.

“However, that is exactly what these people want to do, they want to shut us up, they want to silence us and we won't let them. We will never let them because there is power in unity,” Madonna said in the video below.

Pausing to compose herself, the singer continued and said, “Why should I allow them to stop me and to stop us from enjoying freedom?”

Madonna ended her inspirational message in light of the Paris attacks on a powerful note, as she talked about changing the world in simple ways starting with treating “every human being with dignity and respect.” She also asserted that only “love will change the world.”

She then asked the crowd to say a prayer for the victims of the Paris attacks and their families. The arena fell into dead silence as a sign of respect for the victims of the tragedy. Madonna then resumed with her concert and paid tribute to the lives lost with an acoustic version of her 1989 hit song “Like A Prayer.”

Prior to her show in Stockholm, Madonna had taken to her Twitter page to send her prayers to the victims of the Paris attacks. She also thanked her fans following her concert for their support and wrote a message on her Instagram account saying that it was a difficult show but the love in the arena made her “feel like we were turning darkness into light. And that is our jobs as human beings!” she added.
