Paris Hilton was arrested by a policeman for suspicion of cocaine possession in Las Vegas.

Hilton was with nightclub mogul Cy Waits when they were stopped on 11:30 pm on Friday in a Cadillac driven by Waits near the Wynn resort in Las Vegas.

The policeman smelled marijuana smoke inside the car, and found "a small amount" of substance in Hilton's handbag which tested positive for cocaine.

Hilton was arrested on suspicion of the crime while her boyfriend Waits was arrested on misdemeanor suspicion of driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol. The two were booked into the Clark County jail.

Hilton was released without bail early on Saturday. Within an hour, Hilton announced in her Twitter account that she was in bed watching Family Guy.

Later that day, Paris' lawyer David Chesnoff issued a statement saying that Hilton's arrest "will be dealt with in the courts, not in the media." Chesnoff encouraged people not to rush to judgment on Paris "until all of the facts have been dealt with in a court of law."
