News that heiress Paris Hilton tweeted her respects after learning of the death of Nelson Mandela hit the web. However, the big question is: Does the heiress really know who Nelson Mandela is?

On Thursday, the world was shocked by the death of former South African president Nelson Mandela. Immediately after, Paris Hilton took to Twitter at 7:11pm on December 5 where the controversial star said:

"RIP Nelson Mandela. Your "I Have A Dream" speech was so inspiring. An amazing man. [heart]"

Many celebrities used the famous social networking site to express their feelings after the great leader who was Nelson Mandela had died at the age of 95. Paris Hilton was one of the celebrities but it seems she had slammed the "fake" tweet in a recent post on Twitter.

"Whoever made that stupid fake tweet lacks respect to the loss the world is mourning right now. Same goes for all the blogs that ran with it"

The heiress posted her tweet at 3:14pm on December 5.

The tweet gained buzz where thousands of Twitter users had retweeted it. Obviously, Hilton counts as one of the few people who doesn't know that the greatest of leaders are both Luther King Jr. and Mandela.

Nonetheless, Paris did manage to tweet her thoughts and express her feelings of sadness over the news before slamming the "fake" tweet.

"Just landed & heard the sad new about Nelson Mandela. He was a true Hero & the world is a better place because of him. May he rest in peace," tweeted Hilton.

The news of the death of Mandela was announced by South African President Jacob Zuma on South African national TV:

"Although we knew that this day would come, nothing can diminish our sense of a profound and enduring loss. Our thoughts are with the South African people who today mourn the loss of the one person who, more than any other, came to embody their sense of a common nationhood. Our thoughts are with the millions of people across the world who embraced Madiba as their own, and who saw his cause as their cause."
