Parts suppliers smile at Holden’s geared up production
Futuris Automotive, the largest supplier of Holden, discloses it will be capable of returning a second shift at its Adelaide plant, in line with Holden's move of resuming afternoon shifts at the automotive factory in Elizabeth.
Futuris Automotive is Holden's supplier of car seats and interior trimmings.
Futuris stopped its second shift when Holden scaled down its car last year due to effects of the global fiscal crisis.
However, Holden is going to restore afternoon shifts at its Elizabeth plant starting November and Futuris intends to implement the same.
Futuris's David Chutter says some 200 workers cut off before will be reinstated.
"Certainly the mood in the industry in South Australia will be significantly buoyed by this news," Mr. Chutter said.
"This is good and welcome news but it's still early days as to the fine detail of the plans."
Meanwhile, TI Automotive, Holden's supplier of brake and fuel lines, also has plans to increase employment at its Adelaide plant once production levels at Elizabeth get boosted as well.
Holden has 2300 workers employed at its Elizabeth factory.
The planned resumption of the second shift by November will return some workers to full time status. Holden also plans to further boost employment when demand significantly rises for the long term.
