Patti Austin on the Voice of the Philippines, Claimed Filipinos are Best Singers
The one and only Patti Austin, American jazz artist and Grammy winner, graced the stage of the Voice of the Philippines on Sunday with Lea Salonga live. Along with the remaining member of the competing artists, Patti Austin and Lea Salonga sang their heart out.
According to the 62-year old singer, she believed that most of the greatest singers she heard and admired are Filipinos; this statement brought cheers and roars among the audience.
Broadway star Lea Salonga and Patti Austin looked like old-time friends as they offered the audience with a delectable performance that brought the audience to their feet.
Patti Austin also gave advice on aspiring singers to always give their heart while singing. According to her, "You may not always hit the perfect note, but if you give your heart, you will have a perfect note."
Asked whether she'll ever come back to the Philippines, Austin joked about coming back each and every time she would be invited. In fact, she said she'll even come even without an invitation that Philippines will get tired of her.
While the appearance of Patti Austin on a Filipino show is not a surprise, many were still enthralled by the down-to-earth artist, especially after her beautiful performance with Lea Salonga.
Moreover, the coming in of Patti Austin was already announced earlier on.
Lea Salonga herself shared the news on Twitter Friday, saying, "Why yes, the non-competing 8 artists on #VoicePHLive will be singing with yours truly and the one and only @pattiaustin. LOVE HER!"
Austin is in the Philippines to complete a series of shows in Manila and Davao. The If I Believe hitmarker claimed early on that she is a fan of the Voice of the Philippines.
"I am (watching), with my sister-girlfriend Lea Salonga. She's my hunny-bunny, I love her. I just think she's, first of all, gorgeous," she said.
Back in 2010, the two singing veterans staged a series of concerts in the United States together.
Referring to Salonga, Austin continued, "Speaking of people who can sing their fannies off, hers has been missing for a long time. She sang it off a long time ago. Love her. She's fabulous. And she's a great laedy, a great person."
After their live performance, Austin even claimed Lea Salonga is her favourite female voice, after herself.
The Voice of the Philippines is an official franchise of the reality singing competition The Voice. It is currently in its first season and made up of famous judges, including Sarah Geronimo, Bamboo, Lea Salonga, and Apl De Ap of Black Eyed Peas.
