Pattinson to miss the IPL

Fast bowler James Pattinson will take no part in the Indian Premier League as a result of abdominal surgery.

Pattinson will go under the knife on Friday on what is not a cricket-related ailment, and with a

four-week recovery period needed, he will not turn out for the Kolkata Knight Riders this season.

"James has undergone tests and consulted specialists since returning from India, and it was felt that surgery is absolutely necessary at this time," said Cricket Australia Chief Medical Officer Justin Paoloni.

"The recovery times will determined once the surgery is completed but James is expected to return to training in approximately four weeks.

"His preparation for The Ashes is not expected to be affected but his availability for the ICC Champions Trophy will be determined at a later stage."
