Paul Walker On Parkour, Stalkers, Sea Life, And Sharks [PHOTOS/ VIDEOS]
On Saturday 30 Nov., 2013, Hollywood has lost another great star Paul Walker, best known for his role as Brian O'Conner in the "The Fast and The Furious", His death has came as a shock for everyone and entire world is mourning his demise. On 7 Aug. 2001 he sat down with GQ to talk about his new role as the face of Davidoff's Cool Water, his scents of choice and his career in showbiz. But he rather opened up about surfing, sea life and what happened when a fan broke into his beach house. Keep reading on to know more about the interview.
When asked about the Parkour training, Paul Walker answered: "I've been training with David Belle from [French action film] District 13 - he's the father of parkour. He's just a flipping stud. We've been running around so much I've become part monkey. I'm a pretty agile guy, especially being taller and having done martial arts from about the age of 13, but Parkour is one of those sports that I wish I'd discovered sooner. When my nephew first showed me I thought, "Damn, I'm too old for this". But David's just turned 40 and I see his physicality, what he's capable of and I figure I can probably do it too. Obviously not as well as him because he's been doing it his whole life, but it's fun; it's a challenge. He's crazy."
When asked about whether he could get eaten by a shark...he said: "Well, yes, on rare occasions, but I'd argue BASE jumping is still far more dangerous."
He said about his interest in marine biology and one thing people don't know about him he said: "I love long range rifle shooting. I like anything that deals with precision. I also find that with archery. On my ranch I have my own range with 3-D targets of animals and hay bales from different distances. I've been doing it for a long time - my dad has photos of me with an adult-sized bow and arrow from when I was two. I wanted to do it at the Olympics. It was an escape - I didn't have a rough childhood, but I needed my alone time when I was a teenager."
He revealed about what he hope to achieve before death Walker said: "I missed out on a lot when I was younger because of this game [acting]. I think people tell you you are a certain thing and so you miss out on a lot you would have otherwise experienced. Inside I still feel certain things calling me. That's why I was doing the shark tagging recently and will be doing it again in two weeks on an island off Hawaii. I'm also going to go do the Grouper spawning. This is part of the reason Davidoff came at me to be the face of the fragrance. Reading the press release I can see their logic - he did this movie Into the Blue, he looked great in it, blah, blah, blah. I'd already been approached by two fragrances in the past, but had no interest in doing it. Davidoff was different because their reasoning wasn't contrived. I thought if I have to go and sit and sell a product (one that admittedly I think smells super great) and all I have to talk about is what I like about it and how I wear it every day, then I'm sorry I'm not that kind of guy. However, Davidoff wanted let me talk about the ocean and back what I do with it - right on!"
"I mean I get the marketing. I get the packaging, I get the box. I've seen the ads my whole life: the guy's really good looking; the dark hair, the blue eyes; he's really ripped when he's getting out of the water. I remember thinking that guy's cool. And guess what? I ended up buying the fragrance. Their reasons for them asking me to do it? That's kinda cool. To now be going on an expedition with National Geographic? Are you kidding me?! Where are we going? It's just one of those opportunities I had to seize." He explained further.
