Pay-per-view Earnings Could Hike Mayweather’s Earning in Canelo Bout to $100 Million
Although there is now a question if the copy of Floyd Mayweather Jr's $41.5 million cheque for his bout with Canelo Alvarez published by Business Insider is genuine, there is no doubt that Mayweather broke sports record with his purse for the bout held on Sept 15, 2013.
However, he could further set a higher record if the pay-per-view numbers would come in, expected to boost his total income from the bout with Canelo to $100 million.
The check, whose veracity is now being questioned, states that the amount of $630,000 was deducted from the purse for anti-doping tests and tickets, broken down into $25,000 for the anti-doping test made by the U.S. Anti-Doping Agency.
That meant Mayweather spent $605,000 for tickets, which the boxer gave away to his family and entourage. Since the tickets cost between $350 and $2,000, doing the math would mean he purchased 1,728 pieces of $350 tickets or 302 pieces of $2,000 or somewhere in between if he paid for various ticket denominations.
Business Insider is still verifying with Gold Boy Promotions the authenticity of the copy of the cheque issued to Mayweather that it published, following a report from Darren Rovell of ESPN that it is fake.
