Payback Time in L.A.? Memphis Grizzlies vs. Los Angeles Clippers [PREVIEW/PREDICTION]
The last time the Memphis Grizzlies and Los Angeles Clippers met was in Game 6 of the first round of the 2013 NBA Playoffs. It left a bitter taste on the mouth of the Clippers as the Grizzlies finished them off right in their home floor.
The teams meet again on Monday night at the Staples Center where the Clippers are a perfect 5-0 this season. It could be an opportune time for L.A. this time around as the Grizzlies are just 5-5 through 10 games and have lost three of their last five away from home.
With payback in their minds, the Clippers will bank on their scoring and teamwork—they rank #1 in the NBA in both points per game (110.0) and assists per game (26.4) this season.
Blake Griffin leads the team in scoring with 22.9 PPG with 10.9 RPG, 3.4 APG and 1.1 SPG. Chris Paul, the league-leader in assists (12.8 APG) adds 19.6 PPG, 4.8 RPG and 2.9 SPG.
The Grizzlies can’t seem to get a rhythm in the early part of the regular season mainly because they lack the defensive tenacity they showed last season when they ranked first in the NBA in points allowed (89.9 PPG).
The last two games—both wins-- could be a good sign, however, as they limited the Los Angeles Lakers and Sacramento Kings to just 86.0 points each. Overall, they are 6th in the NBA in points allowed in 2013-14 holding opponents down to 96.7 PPG.
Mike Conley leads the team in scoring (19.1) and assists (5.8) while Marc Gasol (16.5 PPG and 7.0 RPG) and Zach Randolph (15.1 PPG and 8.6 RPG) man the paint for the Grizzlies.
In their postseason meeting last season, the Grizzlies covered the spread in 5 out of 6 games.
