The PBA Governor's Cup will present a Friday's schedule loaded with star quality and firepower as San Mig Coffee, Meralco Bolt, Ginebra, and Global Port all gun for outright quarterfinal spot along with the twice-to-beat incentives in the knockout stages of the first-pay-for-play league in Asia.

San Mig vs. Meralco

Both carrying with a 5-3 record, San Mig and Meralco will duke it out for the solo no.2 spot in the PBA Governor's Cup standing at 5:15 p.m (Manila/ Perth time). The Coffee Mixers have been on a roll as of late, winning their last four games while the Bolts finally put their struggles behind them with a 100-91 win over Air 21.

Friday's double-header opener is expected to go down to the wire as both teams try to easily book a twice-to-beat advantage without dealing with any complication. The winner of San Mig vs. Meralco showdown will finish the elimination round with a 6-3 record while the loser will drop to 5-4, which could put them in a logjam with Alaska, Ginebra and Rain or Shine.

"We are bracing ourselves for a tough match against San Mig because we have the same mission," said Bolts coach Ryan Gregorio. "They recovered after a 1-3 start and they have won four straight," added Gregorio, whose own team also launched its campaign at 1-2.

"We have to break their rhythm with defense as our main weapon. We have to score. If we are to go deep in the playoffs our offensive efficiency must be as strong as our defensive intensity," Meralco head coach Ryan Gregorio told Phil Inquirer.

Ginebra vs. Global Port

Marc Caguiao and Ginebra will hit the floor for the first time since their controversial win over Rain or Shine last Saturday. Barangay Ginebra was on a brink of losing the game, but a late foul by Beau Belga on Marc Baracael sent the second-year shooter to the free-throw line for three shots. Baracael made all three shots with three tenths of a second left to give Ginebra a 101-100 win.

Global Port is coming off a victory over Meralco Bolts last week, giving them a great shot at making it into the quarterfinals. However, they need first to beat the Gin Kings for them to seal their spot in the playoffs.
