People Choice Awards 2014: Damon & Elena of ‘The Vampire Diaries’ Win Best On-Screen Chemistry
It is people's voted choice awards, thus it comes as no surprise that the sexy couple, Damon Salvatore (Ian Somerhalder) and Elena Gilbert (Nina Dobrev), of "The Vampire Diaries" has won the Favourite On-Screen Chemistry Award at the 40th Annual People's Choice Awards. Their shippers call them Delena.
In "The Vampire Diaries," a self-proclaimed loner Damon fell deeply in love with Elena over the five seasons. The relationship between the two has not been a smooth rise. Their steaming, passionate love has not been able to overcome the darkness of Damon's world. Damon once said to Alaric "I've got the girl" after Elena confessed her love for him in a heart-warming confession scene.
"No one tells me how I live my life, no one tells me who I love, and definitely not the universe. And I'm not going to let someone else's idea of destiny stop me from loving you or being with you or building a future with you...Because you are my life," Damon said to Elena in the beginning of season 5.
In the mid-season finale of "The Vampire Diaries," Season 5, "Fifty Shades of Grayson," Delena were separated. Damon decides to Elena go, as he cannot change and he does not want Elena to change. The Season 5 began on a note of passionate love and the mid-season finale turned out to be a heart-breaker.
The popular award is probably a loud shout-out to the writers of "The Vampire Diaries" to not keep the much loved couple apart for too long. However, the spoilers of the upcoming episodes suggest Delena won't get back together anytime soon, as Damon is entering the dark zone and becoming bad, again.
Ian Somerhalder also took home the Favorite Sci-Fi/Fantasy TV Actor award on Wednesday night. "The Vampire Diaries" is scheduled to return to complete its Season 5 run on January 23, 2014.
