'Perks of Being a Princess': Emma Watson Handpicked del Toro for 'Beauty & the Beast' Film
Emma Watson is probably one of the most powerful Hollywood celebrities in the business. Having come from the most successful film franchise in history, it is not surprising how Emma could practically make everyone in the business follow her lead.
Surprisingly, for the highly anticipated film adaptation of "Beauty & the Beast", Emma had hand-picked the director for the film herself.
The "Harry Potter" star was given the script for the fairytale film adaptation, "Beauty and the Beast." However, Emma had told producers that she's only consider taking on the big project if the popular Mexican film maker, Guillermo Del Toro was the film's director.
"The script came to me and it was a little bit cheesy and kooky, and I was like, 'I don't really want to do this'. I said, 'The only reason I would do it would be if someone like Guillermo del Toro did it,'" said Watson in an interview with Nylon alongside co-stars from her latest film, "Perks of Being a Wallflower."
"Greg Silverman, who's the head of Warner Brothers, said to me, 'Well, why don't you email him?'" added Watson.
Thankfully, Emma being the brilliant lady that she is did exactly as Greg Silverman had suggested and proceeded to sending a request to Del Toro.
"So I did, and he emailed back saying, 'Beauty is my favourite fairytale. It's a story I've always wanted to tell. I can't let anybody else do this project, and I think you're perfect for it," explained Emma, adding, "And we started talking, having these three-hour conversations."
The film is still in the works and rumor has it that "Harry Potter", specifically "Dramione" fans, are petitioning Tom Felton to play Beast in the fairytale film adaptation. Fans of "Harry Potter" know full well that Emma Watson and Tom Felton had such history and chemistry on the set of "Harry Potter." Several interviews even mentioned either Tom or Emma having a deep, hidden fondness over the other.
Having Tome Felton play as Beast alongside Lancôme's beautiful new face, Emma Watson would of course be the best thing fans could hope for. For now, all that everyone else can do is cross their fingers hard or wait for Emma Watson to hand pick Tom Felton herself.
