“SNAFU” means “Situation Normal, All Fouled Up,” which hints that The Machine may confuse the very people trying to protect it as the ones who wish to destroy it. Finch and Root will expectedly be busy trying to fix the problem to hopefully let The Machine grant them access and continue its recovery. Furthermore, The Machine’s interpretation of non-threats as threats so Finch and Root will have to battle it in the next episode.
In the promo video, the team was featured getting busy trying to fix The Machine. There will be more action as they try to avoid Samaritan’s men, as well as solve the current issue on The Machine.
According to Entertainment Weekly, Season 5 will feature more character development for Root, the main user and operator of The Machine. There will be more about the budding relationship between Root and Shaw (Sara Shahi) as well. Shaw will also be shown in a more dynamic manner.
