Perth Woman Tied, Left to Die in House Fire
Fire rescuers found a young woman reportedly tied to a bedpost in a suspicious house fire in Cannington, Perth.
Police told ABC News the blaze started inside the house where the woman was found just before noon (local time) on Wednesday.
Police, however, refused to confirm reports that the woman was tied up, according to the Herald Sun.
The woman, who is in her 20s, was found tied up on a bed when firefighters arrived, reports ABC. No other details surrounding her condition when she was found is known. She was taken to Royal Perth hospital.
Detective Matt Atkinson says the town house was occupied by a number of international students, who will be systematically asked to respond to their questions and help in their investigation.
Atkinson added his team is doing a background check on the woman to identify possible suspects in the serious offence.
"At this stage, the preliminary information is to say that there are extensive burns but she's undergoing treatment as we speak," he said.
ABC reports the woman is unconscious and in a critical condition.
The fire was brought under control by 12.30pm, and the Fire Investigation Analysis Unit was at the scene, reports the Herald Sun.An official statement on the cause of the fire has yet to be released.
