Some pets are too dangerous to handle, as a male teen from Melbourne has seen for himself.

A pet python owned by a 15-year-old Melbourne boy proved how dangerous it is to be taken care of when it bit its owner while he tried to clean the snake's cage.

The pet python wrapped its slippery body around the arm of its owner, refusing to let go until ambulance paramedics have arrived in response to the boy's call for help on Tuesday afternoon.

In a report by 9News, the young teenager opened the door while the snake was still wrapped around his arm. The boy lives in the south-eastern suburb of Dingley Village.

A student paramedic named Elizabeth told 9News the python only started to loosen its grip on the boy when she and another paramedic arrived at the scene.

"He was quite distressed and had small puncture marks to his arm," she said, adding, "He and his mum were able to detach it and force it back into the tank - quite a harrowing experience for my partner and I (sic)."

The boy's mother took him to a GP to be sure after the paramedics have cleaned the boy's wound and protected it with gauze.

The video below shows a seven-year-old boy from Cambodia who is friends with a 16-foot python, which has reportedly been freed in the forest but kept coming back. His father said both the boy and the snake, who share the same age, enjoy each other's company.
