PGA: Another Wrap-up for Tiger
Tiger Woods starts once more his season with no victory. This year's PGA championship marks his 18th season when he started in such a way. It started since 2008.
Woods, with no bogey, went for the back nine in 3 on Sunday. This definitely shows his tenacity. However, Woods belongs to that class of golfers who are judged on a much higher level of performance.
Woods is apparently not moved by the majors drought. He believes that he has already gone through similar situations and overcome the same before. Woods does not seem to move ahead from his 14th tournament. On the other hand, people are more interested to know if he will be able to catch Jack Nicklaus who won as many as 18 major tournaments.
Interestingly enough, Jack Nicklaus went through similar droughts in his career as well. He went for 20 straight seasons without a win between 1980 PGA and 1986 Masters whereas Nicklaus pulled out off 1983 Master just after he played the very first round. Another drought happened for Nicklaus between 1967 and 1970 when he went for 12 straight seasons without a win.
Woods feels that he is almost there but somehow it is not happening. He was in a position to be the champion of the British and the Masters for 2013. Nevertheless, he did not manage to hit well enough in the two other tournaments. He believes that this is the way things happen in one's career.
Woods, the current no. 1 in the world, must wait until April 2014 when he will restart his venture to grab the Golden Bear. It has certainly not been the best of time in Woods' career. Woods finished pretty low on the leader-board even though he won 5 times this season.
Woods is going to be 38 on Dec 30, 2013. He believes that he has got enough time to catch up with Nicklaus. He is apparently pretty confident about winning 5 more to outshine Nicklaus. Statistics does favour Woods as 2 of the previous 5 Masters winners were minimum 39 and rest of the 5 were over 40.
There have been 27 champions who won majors when they were over 40. Hogan turned 38 before winning 5, whereas Nicklaus won 4 after he became 38.
