Phil And Jay Bond Over Haley's New Car On Her 21st Birthday On 'Modern Family'
In this week's episode of "Modern Family." the entire cast is thinking all about growing up because it's Haley's 21st birthday. Claire took Haley out to a bar with Gloria, Mitch and Cam while Phil is out bonding with Jay at the car dealership trying to get a good deal for Haley's new car.
Phil and Claire Dunphy have decided to get their daughter Haley a new car as a birthday present. Haley turned 21 and Claire took her out to the bar to celebrate and officially have her first drink. While the girls were having fun at the bar, Phil was supposed to be picking up a car from the dealership which was meant to be a surprise present. The big reveal was supposed to take place when the girls decide to leave the bar.
Jay drove Phil over to the car dealership to finalise the sale and pick up the car. When they got to the dealership, Jay decided to go down and listen in on the closing of the sale because he didn't trust that Phil could get a good deal on his own. When he heard the dealer offering Phil an upgrade on the wheels, Jay decided to butt in and told the dealer to throw in the wheels and slash even more from the agreed price.
Phil told Jay that he had already handled the deal and that everything was fine but Jay just wouldn't budge. He promised Phil that he can get a better deal on the car. The dealer said that he already gave them the best price possible and said that there was nothing more that he can do. Jay insisted that there was more wiggle room to adjust the price and when the dealer refused, Jay decided to leave and get a better deal elsewhere.
When Phil and Jay arrived at another dealership, Jay was confident that he can outdo the deal that Phil had from the original dealer. Unfortunately for both of them, they were told that the other guy was actually losing money on the offer and there was no way that another dealer could give them a better deal. Jay was mortified that he was wrong and decided to save face. He went back inside and told Phil to wait outside so that he can set things straight. Miraculously, when he came out, the dealer said that Phil got the car for a much cheaper rate than his first dealer was willing to give him. As Phil was testing the car, the dealer secretly revealed to him that Phil actually got a better deal with the first dealer but Jay was so humiliated that he went ahead and paid the difference just to show Phil that he can get a good deal. Instead of becoming angry, Phil was so touched to earn that Jay cared about what Phil thought of him and was happy to see a rare display of affection from his father-in-law.
