Philippine Azkals to challenge strong Palestine
Fresh from its 1-1 draw against Myanmar, the rising Philippine Azkals will battle the Palestine Al-Fusan (The Fighters) on Wednesday to continue their whirlwind campaign in the AFC Challenge Cup group stage and raise their nation's hope of qualifying into the World Cup.
The Azkals, which has found new fame and attention, will face off the Palestinian side around 3 p.m. Myanmar time (5 p.m. in Manila). In their Monday's match against the Myanmar White Angels, the Philippine team settled for 1-1 draw after Myanmar scored a late and heartbreaking goal late in the game.
The match was worth a point each for the 2 teams.
The Azkals are targeting to score at least three points in their match against the Palestinian as they need at least four more points to advance to the next phase of the Challenge Cup.
The Philippine team needs to win at least two of their last remaining matches or win one match and draw the remaining other depending on the results of the other games in the group.
Based on the latest FIFA world ranking, the Philippines is ranked 151, while Myanmar is 161th; followed by the Bangladesh Bengal Tigers at No. 174, and Palestine Al-Fusan at 178th.
