Picasso, Warhol, Matisse, Duchamp works to be showcased in Western Australia
The Australian cultural scene has achieved a milestone: the Art Gallery of Western Australia has secured a deal with the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) for a historical exhibition featuring the works of the greatest artists of all time.
The exhibition entitled Picasso to Warhol: Twelve Modern Masters, is set to open for viewing next week and will feature up to 100 works from MoMa's distinguished collection. Attendees can expect an education on various art techniques made popular by the featured legends such as expressionism, surrealism, abstract, minimalism, Dadaism and even pop art. This stellar and highly-important exhibition is made possible by the Art Gallery's head Dr. Stefano Carboni, who has previously worked for the Metropolitan Museum of Modern Art. Most of the works shipped in the country have not been out of the U.S., and the people from the Art Gallery of Western Australia are more than ecstatic to hold the honor of hosting the event. Dr. Carboni's efforts are commended by Australia Arts Minister John Day, expressing his utmost delight for this monumental cultural event.
"People want high-quality events, including in the cultural sector, and we're certainly making a statement about that" says Day in a report posted at the Sydney Morning Herald.
Aside from works by Pablo Picasso and Andy Warhol, the exhibit will showcase paintings from expressionist Jackson Pollack and impressionist Henri Matisse. Paintings and works by surrealist Joan Miro, Piet Mondrian, and Marcel Duchamp will also be featured, as well as Jasper Johns' pop art creations. This is quite the cultural event for citizens in Perth and WA, with an estimated budget of $6 to bring the paintings on our shores.
Picasso to Warhol: Twelve Modern Masters is the first of several exhibitions happening around Perth and WA to feature the works from MoMA. Some of the works will be moved to the museum's departments such as photography and modern design
