"Piranha" producer bites "Avatar" director James Cameron
Piranha producer Mark Canton dared talk back to the King of the World James Cameron after the Titanic director said that the latest film in the franchise Piranha 3D "reminds of the bad 3D horror films from the 70s and 80s."
"Cameron consistently celebrates himself out as though he is a team of one," Canton said. "His comments are ridiculous, self-serving and insulting to those of us who are not caught up in serving his ego and his rhetoric."
He challenged the Avatar director to watch Piranha 3D in theaters, saying that some of today's greatfilmaker had "fun 3D experience" watching the movie.
Canton asserted: "On opening weekend, I was in a Los Angeles theater with a number of today's great filmmakers including J.J. Abrams, who actually had nothing short of the fabulous, fun 3D experience that the movie provides."
Cameron told Vanity Fair that he is not fond of his connection to "Piranha" franchise. The movie has successful debut at number 2 in the box office but Cameron said he has "zero" nostalgia for helming the second film in the franchise, Pirhana 2: The Spawning.
"Zero. You've got to remember: I worked on Piranha 2 for a few days and got fired off of it," the director said.
He has nothing but harsh criticism for the film, saying that the film lacks creativity and producers are merely milking the franchise for cash.
"When movies got to the bottom of the barrel of their creativity and at the last gasp of their financial lifespan, they did a 3-D version to get the last few drops of blood out of the turnip."
