'Pirates of the Caribbean 5' trailer reveals Keira Knightley in cast
A new “Pirates of the Caribbean 5” trailer has revealed a key detail about the movie’s cast: actress Keira Knightley will be returning to the film franchise to reprise her role as Elizabeth Turner (nee Swann). While her addition to the cast had been previously rumoured, a recent international trailer for “Pirates of the Caribbean: Salazar’s Revenge” confirmed Knightley’s appearance in the film. Along with co-star Orlando Bloom (who has portrayed Will Turner in the film franchise), Knightley will be returning to the “Pirates of the Caribbean” film series after her last appearance in the third movie, “At World’s End,” in 2007.
“Pirates of the Caribbean 5” will see Johnny Depp returning as Captain Jack Sparrow yet again. The actor last brought the character to life in the fourth “Pirates” movie, “On Stranger Tides.” The film starred Geoffrey Rush who reprised his role as Captain Hector Barbossa as well as newcomer to the franchise, Penelope Cruz, who portrayed the character Angelica. Notably absent were Bloom and Knightley, who had both been in the “Pirates” movie saga since the first film.
The extent of Knightley’s and Bloom’s roles in the upcoming “Salazar’s Revenge” is predicted to be a brief appearance though. According to Yahoo, Knightley and Bloom will be portraying the parents of new character Henry Turner, who is portrayed by Australian actor Brenton Thwaites. The young Henry is on a journey to learn more about the curse set upon his father Will. As some fans may recall, the end of the third “Pirates” movie, “At World’s End,” saw Will becoming the new captain of the pirate ship The Flying Dutchman, which previously had Davy Jones at the helm.
Though the curse managed to save Will from the brink of death, it also dropped The Flying Dutchman on his shoulders. This ultimately left Will with the responsibility of ferrying lost souls who died at sea into the next world with the ship. With this curse, Will would only be able to see his wife, Elizabeth, once every ten years. This was seen to have been taken into effect in the post-credits scene of “At World’s End” which showed Will returning to Elizabeth after ten years. Knightley’s character was not alone upon their reunion though, as she was now accompanied by their young son, Henry.
“Pirates of the Caribbean 5” will see Captain Jack pursued by old nemesis Armando Salazar who is on the hunt to slay all pirates at sea. The film is slated to hit theatres on May 26. Meanwhile, the trailer showing Knightley’s return to franchise can be found here.
