The American Music Awards (AMAs) 2013 will take place on Nov. 24 at the Nokia Theatre in Los Angeles. Miami rapper, Pitbull will host the AMAs and will also grace the ceremony with his performance (song 'Timber') with Ke$ha.

Recently on Hot 100 chart, "Timber" climbed 11 spots to a new height at No. 35. The "Give Me Everything" star will be the show's first host since 2008.

The 32-year-old, whose real name is Armando Christian Perez, was selected in part for his Latino heritage because of two reasons:

1. AMAs 2013 celebrate the 25th anniversary of Gloria Estefan's appearance on the show (Estefan was the first Latin AMA performer)

2. This year the AMAs celebrate the 15th year of the favourite artist (Latin category).

"I am truly honored to be hosting the 2013 American Music Awards," "The night is only about one thing: fun! So buckle and get ready. Dále!" Pitbull said in a press statement.

Pitbull and Ke$ha join formerly announced AMAs performers: Miley Cyrus, Imagine Dragons, Macklemore & Ryan Lewis, Luke Bryan, Kendrick Lamar, Florida Georgia Line and One Direction. The alliance between the recent touring partners follows Pitbull's 2012 album Global Warming, which included the singles "Don't Stop The Party," "Get It Started" and "Feel This Moment".

Here are some highlights of the 2013 American Music Awards nominations:

  • Rihanna and Bruno Mars will vie for artist of the year
  • Macklemore & Ryan Lewis's "Thrift Shop" is up for a new award, single of the year
  • Robin Thicke's super hit "Blurred Lines" and Florida Georgia Line and Nelly's "Cruise" is also up for the award
  • Swift, Rihanna and Pink are nominated for favourite female artist-pop/rock
  • Timberlake, Thicke and Miguel are nominated for favourite male artist-soul/R&B
