‘Pitch Perfect 3’ casts rapper Trinidad James to compete against the Bellas

Fans can expect a new face in “Pitch Perfect 3” as a new cast member was announced. Rapper Trinidad James was confirmed to be joining the next instalment of Universal Pictures and Gold Circle Entertainment musical comedy franchise.

James is cast as one of the members of a singing group competing against the Barden Bellas, according to the Hollywood Reporter. The rapper gets the chance to work alongside Anna Kendrick (Beca), Rebel Wilson (Fat Amy), Hailee Steinfeld (Emily), Chrissie Fit (Flo), Kelly Jakle (Jessica), Ester Dean (Cynthia Rose) and other cast members in the upcoming film.

The Atlanta rapper launched his debut single “All Gold Everything” in 2012. Bruno Mars has even sampled some the lyrics of the song for “Uptown Funk.” His involvement in the song got him an 8 percent financial cut. He received a whooping US$150,000 (AU$196,000) out of US$2 million (AU$2.62 million). Despite contribution his to “Uptown Funk,” he did not win any Grammy for it.

"Songwriters do not share in the nomination for a Grammy Award in a Record of the Year,” a Recording Academy representative told Complex. Later in the same year, he released his debut mixtape “Don't Be S.A.F.E.” and then signed with Def Jam Records.

Fans can look forward to seeing more of James’ singing as well as acting skills in the film. Aside from his reputation as a rapper, he has dipped into the waters of acting before. He made an appearance as Weed Man on “Major Lazer,” an American animated television series based on the electronic music project of the same name. The rapper has also landed a cameo appearance in “Love by the 10th Date.”

In April 2016, the rapper released the single "Just a Lil' Thick (She Juicy)" featuring Mystikal and Lil Dicky. The Hollywood Reporter notes that his mixtape titled "The Wake Up 2" was dropped most recently to streaming services such as Spotify.

In other “Pitch Perfect 3” news, Kendrick has reportedly hinted a possible lesbian storyline for the film. Fans of the franchise would be excited to know that more of BeChloe romance may be expected. In one of her past interviews with a print magazine, she has teased that the upcoming film would give fans what they want. This has led some fans to believe that BeChloe may finally be happening. However, Universal Pictures or Gold Circle Entertainment has not officially confirmed this theory to be true.

“Pitch Perfect 3” is under the direction of Trish Sie. The film’s script is written by Kay Cannon, with the most recent draft written by Mike White.

The third instalment of the franchise is produced by Paul Brooks of Gold Circle Entertainment and Max Handelman and Elizabeth Banks of Brownstone Productions. Sara Scott is in charge of overseeing the film from Universal.
