PM Gillard set to call an election in August
Australian Prime Minister Julia Gillard will make an announcement on July 2 regarding a possible election in August, the Australian Broadcasting Corp. cited on its website.
Although PM Gillard's office would not comment on this, the ABC said Aug. 7 and Aug. 14 are the possible dates for a joint House of Representatives and Senate election.
Gillard told Australian Broadcasting Corp. radio in Melbourne yesterday. "My scenario, the one I'm focused on, is making sure we're doing the things we need to do to get the government back on track."
Mining companies also earlier warned the Parliament to resolve the super profits tax issues until next week before they take on another campaign against this fiscal policy.
That advertising may resume if Gillard's talks with the miners did not materialise, the Association of Mining and Exploration Companies chief executive officer Simon Bennison said Tuesday.
