‘Pokemon GO’ update: Promo Codes, the next big feature in the game, Legendaries, PvP battles and Shiny event teased
Latest reports suggest that the popular game “Pokemon GO” has added the ability to use promo codes. Players on Android OS will be able to see a box for entering promo codes once they enter the shop.
Niantic has not yet revealed any promo code. Soon, players will be able to enter promo codes to redeem items such as Lucky Eggs, Lure Modules and PokeBalls. The support page of the game mentions that these codes will be part of future promotions and events that will have corporate sponsors such as Starbucks, McDonalds and Sprint, to name a few. It is not yet known how these promo codes will be distributed. Currently, the ability to use promo codes is only available on Android phones.
There are still certain legal issues to be settled for an iOS release. Apple takes a portion of the money for every in-game transaction. Hence, fans fear that Niantic may run into trouble in case they charge sponsors for running in-game promo codes. Moreover, players are still trying to ascertain whether the codes will be generic or unique for each player. If Niantic makes the ability to redeem codes live, players expect giveaways and promotions in the near future. The promo code feature has been found in the game’s code.
While players have been eagerly waiting for a new co-op experience, promo codes seem to be the next big change. Niantic is said to be working with numerous new features that fans expect to be released later this week. To redeem a promo code, players need to tap the Main Menu button in Map View. Next they need to tap the Shop button and enter the promo code in the text field at the bottom of the screen. Once the players touch Redeem, a notification will display the items added to the inventory.
Data miners have revealed that the promo codes will be usable with items such as PokeCoins, Stardust, Candy and Avatar aesthetics. It is also rumoured that the Pokemon Legendaries will be released later this year with the possibility of a summer launch. John Hanke has said that the team is handling the Legendaries with care, though they will have limitations at Gyms. PvP Battles release could also be near. Hanke said that Gen 2 Pokemon Delibird and Smeargle’s unique moves are making it difficult for the team to code.
A big Shiny event is also reportedly in the works. Stay tuned on IBT AU for more updates on “Pokemon GO.”
