'Pokemon Go' Water Festival: How to catch Lapras
Niantic has announced a new "Pokemon Go" Water Festival which increases the likelihood a player will encounter Magikarp, Squirtle, Totodile and their Evolutions. The event, which started Thursday, also increases the chances gamers will come across Water-type Pokemon including the ever-illusive Lapras.
"Additionally, when you’re out exploring areas where Water-type Pokémon more commonly appear, you’ll have a greater chance to encounter several of the Water-type Pokémon originally discovered in the Johto region, and maybe... you might even encounter Lapras,” said Niantic of the event.
How To Catch Lapras
Lapras is the most powerful Water Pokemon in "Pokemon Go," but it is also one of the rarest. It's such a rare find that it's been included in the Reddit chart under the "Mystical" section.
However, while it's an extremely uncommon find, this Pokemon's location is quite easy to establish. Most owners have revealed that they found the water and ice type Pokemon in places that are associated with water.
When looking for Lapras, players should head over to large bodies of water like lakes, rivers and the beach or ocean. Twinfinite reports that while Lapras isn't limited to these bodies of water, players are more likely to chance upon one when they stick to PokeStops that are near water.
Catching a Lapras follows the same technique as catching other rare Pokemon. Players may head over to a highly concentrated PokeStop and use Lure modules. If Lures are already installed, they can complement it by adding an Incense. The Drop Rate will increase if the Lure isn't theirs, and which will therefore increase their chances of spotting a Lapras. Once they have one in sight, they can make use of Razz Berries and Great/Ultra Balls because Lapras can be very ferocious and get away after some failed attempts.
Latest 'Pokemon Go' Update
The Water Festival follows a March 21 update for both Android and iOS. This included the awarding of a random Evolution item for the 7-day First PokéStop of the Day streak. This came along with minor text fixes.
In addition to the Water Pokemon, Niantic has revealed players will find a new avatar wardrobe item -- a Magikarp Hat. The event kicked off at 7:00 a.m. AEDT on Thursday and will run all the way until March 29. According to Forbes, the event coincides with the International World Water Day, which aims to bring attention to the global clean water crisis.
