Police Detains Student Over ‘Bomb Threat’ on Facebook
A 24-year-old university undergraduate was detained for police questioning after posting a status on Facebook about bombing Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak's helicopter, according to a Malaysian news website.
George Town OCPD Asst Comm Gan Kong Meng told The Star online that the student, whom authorities did not name, was brought in to the district police headquarters on Patani Road for questioning at around 1.30pm on Sunday.
"Police are investigating the case under Section 506 of the Penal Code for criminal intimidation. He was earlier picked up at his campus in Nibong Tebal," Mr. Meng said.
"The case is pending further investigations. We will announce if there is any development," he added.
A police report had been lodged at the Jelutong police station against a blog posting which featured a screenshot of the student's Facebook profile.
In his latest status update on the Facebook profile, the student posted, "(N)ajib is coming to our campus...let's bomb his helicopter..."
