Police regained control over Bali Kerobokan prison after inmates took over jail staff on Tuesday night. The overcrowded jail that holds around 1,000 detainees is home to notorious drug traffickers from Australia, namely Bali Nine, and Schapelle Corby.

Wednesday morning 100 armed forces of the country went inside the jail to stop the riot triggered by the stabbing incident of one prisoner in which three were arrested that happened on the weekend.

The riot motivated prison staff to abandon the place as it was extremely difficult for them to control the huge number of prisoners that is actually three times more than the jail's normal capacity, which is 323 prisoners.

A few inmates during the riot gained access to the administration office, where they have started burning furniture. Some began throwing stones at police particularly the guards.

Reports say one prisoner died, but has not been confirmed yet. It was certain, however, that at least three detainees were rushed to the hospital after riot police shot them on their leg while trying to control a small group of inmates refusing to surrender.

The Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT) verified that all Australian drug traffickers detained inside are secure. Gold Coast's Schapelle Corby, Bali Nine, Graeme Pollock from Darwin and Michael Sacatides from Sydney were held safe according to the spokeswoman of DFAT.

Ketut Untung Yoga, Bali police deputy chief, said offers took over and managed to control raging inmates and stopped the riot while the fire was being extinguished. No dead bodies were found at the moment according to him.

Authorities have already checked the place and found out jail walls weren't damaged and no prisoner has escaped.

Authorities said the integrity of the jail's walls was never at risk and the guards ensured no prisoners
