The IPL spot fixing scandal that took place in May rocked the country and disappointed fans. One of those charged is S Sreesath, a rising cricket star from India’s southern state of Kerala.

Former captain of the Indian squad, Rahul Dravid said that he was not aware of the kind of fraud that was taking place among players. “I never had a doubt about these players. I used to select players on a match-to-match basis,” Dravid was quoted by Agency DNA as saying.
Dravid, captain of the Rajasthan Royals, will be a prosecution witness for the case, reports WebCric.com.

He told reports that he felt cheated by his teammates, including pacer Sreeshanth and others like Ankeet Chavan and Ajit Chandila, who were arrested on May 16.

As the case unfolded, the police in Delhi found a link between bookies and mafia boss, Daewood Ibrahim. A man named Javed Chutani was main connection between Daewood and the bookies involved in match fixing.

In a recording obtained by investigators, a voice believed to be Mr. Ibrahim’s said that the deal would be Rs. 8 million and the recording took place during a conversation with Javed.

The police have charged Sreesanth and 27 others in violation of Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act (MCOCA). While Chandila was kept in custody after audio recordings contained evidence of his involvement, Sreesanth, Chavan and eighteen bookies were granted bail.

Claims of illegal match-booking activities turned up ahead of the Champions trophy, as the Indian game offers a benchmark standard with contributions from cricketers like Sachin Tandulker and Kapil Dev
