The news that Daniel Day-Lewis (My Left Foot, There Will Be Blood) is set to play US President Abraham Lincoln had opened a possible comparison between James McAvoy's acting performance and that of the veteran actor, since the two British actors are both set to portray Lincoln in different biographical pictures.

James McAvoy (Atonement, Becoming Jane) will be next seen as Lincoln in a film to be directed by Robert Redford, while Day-Lewis will be starring in a movie directed by Stephen Spielberg.

When it does comes to being awards-studded, it seems that the stars are favoring Daniel Day-Lewis. The actor himself had won two Academy Awards, which definitely adds to his gravitas. It does help that he will be under the guidance of the critically-acclaimed and award-winning director Spielberg. The script itself will be based on a Pulitzer-winning novel Team of Rivals by Doris Kearn Goodwin, and is being developed by a Pulitzer-winning writer Tony Krushner.

However, James McAvoy himself is a critics' darling. He has consistently received rave reviews for his performance, particularly on Atonement. McAvoy is someone to be watched, as even made obvious by his having won the BAFTA Rising Stars Award.

He had starred in critically-successful films like The Last King of Scotland, and in box office hit such as Wanted, opposite Angelina Jolie. Under the guidance of the Oscar-winning director Robert Redford, McAvoy promises to give a very good on-screen imitation of the US President.
